SODA

Look now child; do you see God’s wondrous ocean?
Underneath its waters are millions of living creatures.
No, father. I only see its horizon.
My brain can’t take in un-numbered horizons.

Look higher child. Do you see this redwood tree?
It was here before Columbus’ foot touched our land.
No , father. All I can see is today.
And maybe last year; and the year before.

Look at this globe, child. We’re standing right here.
China is there, thousands of miles away.
No, father. Our feet are right on this rug.
The world is too huge for the size of my brain.

Father, could I please have a bottle of soda?
