THE LOST DAY

Dawdle and dittle, dittle and dawdle;
Discovered some books long forgotten:
Read and eat along the way
Gold is here. Hours can swallow up day!

Never mind the sink full of dishes
Some other day will be good to mow.
Won’t hurt the grass to wait a while
A little more time in the sun to grow.

Oops! Growing shadows. Day is done;
Darkness grows. Night has come!
But what a harvest of life and gold
Yielding itself from books of old!
