AWASH

We are awash in wickedness

tossing on treacherous seas, battered:
main mast smashed and lying on the deck
weary captain, hands clenched on the wheel
drenched crew, strenuously manning the pumps
ship hopelessly pulled toward sturdy lighthouse
hoping for seasonal currents to carry our ship
away from hidden rocks by remaining sails.
Sliding on slippery deck then finding and clinging
to un-named parts of the foundering ship
we look beyond the exhausted face of the captain

knowing: we are the LORD’s

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God (Romans 8:28)
